Jan is the Director of Operations of the Free Cities Foundation. He runs the organisation day to day and leads its projects, among them the Foundation’s digital platforms: the public website, the member portal and the systems behind the Free Cities Conference. He has been with the Foundation and its predecessor organisations since 2018, longer than anyone else on the team.
Jan is from Germany and has been part of the libertarian movement for nearly twenty years. He has since left the country and lives as a digital nomad. He sees new jurisdictions as the fastest way to advance liberty within his own lifetime. Reforming an existing state means persuading everyone at once. A new zone only has to persuade the people who choose to move in.
Jan is also Chief of Staff at Tipolis, a developer of new jurisdictions, and IT administrator for several organisations in the Free Cities movement.
He still organises the Free Cities meetup in Berlin, speaks at conferences and events, and represents the Foundation at them.

Johannes Kaiser Interview: Free Cities in Libertarian Chile
Can you fight the state by becoming the state? It is the one question every political libertarian has to answer, and Johannes Kaiser has heard it more often than most. Last November, the leader of Chile’s National Libertarian Party won 14 percent of the vote in the country’s presidential election, one of the strongest results a libertarian party has ever achieved anywhere in a national first round. A few months later, we found ourselves sitting across from him at a lakeside campground in eastern Germany, asking him exactly that question.
