Swen Lorenz

Swen Lorenz is an investor and author who has founded or led ventures including a $300m property fund and a UNESCO-affiliated scientific organisation. He lives on Sark, a semi-autonomous island of around 600 residents in the Channel Islands, and writes at undervalued-shares.com.

Born in Germany, he started investing at fifteen, moved to London in 1998 and has since worked from New York, Hong Kong, Macau, the Galapagos Islands and Switzerland, looking for undervalued companies in places most funds do not cover. He was a director of the first London-listed residential property fund for Macau, and spent four years outside finance as chief executive of a scientific conservation organisation in the Galapagos.

He has lived on Sark since 2017. The island has no cars, its own parliament in the Chief Pleas and a tax system of its own, which makes it one of the few places in Europe where a very small jurisdiction can be watched at work rather than theorised about. He writes about it publicly alongside his investment research, including on what it would take for Sark to fund its infrastructure and attract new residents without losing what makes it worth moving to.
