Robert P. Murphy is an economist of the Austrian School with a PhD from New York University and a senior fellow of the Mises Institute. He is the author of Contra Krugman and other books, hosts the Bob Murphy Show and co-hosts the Contra Krugman podcast.
He has held positions at the Free Market Institute at Texas Tech, the Institute for Energy Research and the Fraser Institute, where he is a senior fellow, alongside his work for the Mises Institute.
His writing runs from textbooks to polemic. Lessons for the Young Economist and Choice: Cooperation, Enterprise, and Human Action are attempts to make Ludwig von Mises’s economics teachable, while Chaos Theory sets out how courts and defence might be supplied on a market rather than by a state, which is the question every Free City project eventually has to answer in practice. He also co-wrote a book explaining Bitcoin.
He hosts The Bob Murphy Show and The Human Action Podcast, and has spent years debating Keynesian economists in public rather than only writing about them. He read economics at Hillsdale College and took his doctorate at New York University in 2003.
