Frank Karsten is a Dutch libertarian author and activist who founded the More Freedom Foundation (Stichting MeerVrijheid) and co-founded the Mises Institute Netherlands. He is co-author of Beyond Democracy, which has been translated into more than twenty languages.
Written with Karel Beckman, the book takes on what its authors call the last political taboo: the assumption that majority rule and freedom are the same thing. Their argument is that decisions taken collectively for everyone manufacture conflict, because every question has to produce a single answer for all, while decentralisation and the right to leave allow people who disagree to live differently instead.
That is why the book keeps turning up in Free Cities and seasteading debates, where exit rather than outvoting is the starting point, and why Karsten has been a regular guest at conferences in both movements.
In the Netherlands the More Freedom Foundation campaigns against taxes and state intervention. He has since written on complexity in software, and he serves as a Free Cities Ambassador in Amsterdam.
