Nuria Puigcerver

Nuria Forqués Puigcerver is an urban designer and co-founder of Fitted Projects, an urban-planning practice. She co-developed the master plan for Ciudad Morazán, a ZEDE under construction in Honduras, covering its housing, street network and zoning, and lectures on urban planning at the Africa Urban Lab in Zanzibar.

The Ciudad Morazán plan is unusual in this movement for what it aims at: not a hub for foreign entrepreneurs but affordable rented housing for Honduran factory workers, laid out so that people can walk to work, with narrow streets, small blocks and a plot pattern meant to be built out incrementally rather than all at once.

Her work as an urban designer runs from small renovations to new-city plans of several thousand hectares, across Latin America, the Caribbean, the Middle East, Europe and the United States. She teaches at the Africa Urban Lab in Zanzibar, the programme training African planners and economists for the urban growth the continent is already in, where the practical question is whether a city’s expansion is laid out in advance or absorbed as informal settlement afterwards.
