Niko Laamanen is an educator and the founder of Konsensus Network, the first Bitcoin-only publishing house. Working through a distributed network of more than fifty volunteers across some twenty languages, Konsensus translates and publishes the best books on liberty, economics and Bitcoin, describing itself as a censorship-resistant “starfish enterprise”.
He is the author of Wielding Bitcoin and is based in Madeira, where he supports the island’s autonomy through economics and Bitcoin education.
Konsensus works the way its name suggests: no central office, a network of translators and editors spread across countries, each title localised by people who speak the language rather than by a service. It has published dozens of titles on Bitcoin, Austrian economics and sovereignty in languages no commercial publisher considers worth a print run.
The starfish comparison is deliberate. An organisation with no head cannot be decapitated, which for a publisher of politically inconvenient books is a design requirement rather than a metaphor.
