Mark Littlewood

Mark Littlewood is a British free-market campaigner who served as director general of the Institute of Economic Affairs from 2009 to 2023. Earlier in his career he was campaigns director at Liberty and head of media for the Liberal Democrats.

He ran the Institute of Economic Affairs for fourteen years and is credited with raising both its media profile and its influence in Westminster, over a period in which free-market arguments moved from the fringe of British politics into a governing party and back out again. Since leaving he has directed Popular Conservatism, a campaign group on the right of British politics.

His background is unusual for a free-market campaigner. Before the IEA he was campaigns director at Liberty, the civil-liberties organisation, and head of media for the Liberal Democrats, which left him making the case for economic and civil liberty from the same premise rather than treating them as separate causes. He is a frequent broadcaster on British television and radio and a regular speaker at liberty conferences in Britain and Europe.
