Joel Bomgar is a technology entrepreneur and statesman who founded Bomgar Corporation (now BeyondTrust) and served in the Mississippi House of Representatives. An early investor in Próspera, he later became President of the Honduran ZEDE.
He started Bomgar in 2003 to give IT teams a secure way to support machines they could not physically reach, and built it into a business serving customers in some sixty-five countries before it was sold and later renamed BeyondTrust. He then spent eight years in state politics, elected for Mississippi’s 58th district in 2016 and serving until 2024.
He backed Próspera early, as an investor rather than an operator, and has been its President since 2021. The role covers the running of the zone and its relationships with residents and businesses, as well as much of its public case, which has become more demanding since Honduras repealed the legal framework the project was built under and the dispute moved into international arbitration.
