Jeff Booth is a technology entrepreneur who has lived at the forefront of technological change for two decades. He led the building-materials marketplace BuildDirect for nearly twenty years, through the dot-com crash, the 2008 financial crisis and many waves of disruption.
He is the author of The Price of Tomorrow: Why Deflation is the Key to an Abundant Future, which argues that accelerating technology is inherently deflationary and at odds with a debt-based monetary system.
The argument in the book is a collision. Technology makes almost everything cheaper every year, while a monetary system built on expanding debt requires prices to rise, so the two can only be reconciled by printing enough money to hide the deflation, which transfers wealth to whoever stands nearest the new money.
He has since co-founded Ego Death Capital, a venture firm that invests only in businesses built on Bitcoin, on the view that the alternative to hiding deflation is money nobody is able to print.
