Vít Jedlička

Vít Jedlička’s mission is to build Liberland, a country where honest people can prosper without being oppressed by unnecessary regulation and taxation. Liberland is undergoing a transformation from a centralised libertarian state toward a Decentralised Autonomous Government, combining blockchain governance technology with the ideas of limited government.

Liberland claims seven square kilometres of Gornja Siga, a pocket of the Danube floodplain that Croatia and Serbia each exclude from their own territory because of a boundary dispute neither wants to concede. Jedlička declared it in 2015, and Croatian police have repeatedly turned back or detained people trying to reach it, himself included.

The project has worked around that from the Serbian bank, where it acquired a riverside site now developed as a settlement and event venue, and it holds an annual gathering there. Its residency and voting run on blockchain, which is less a gimmick than a necessity for a state whose citizens are almost all somewhere else.

He has given hundreds of interviews to mainstream outlets such as The New York Times Magazine and Fox Business Network, and spoken at dozens of conferences including the Horasis Global Meeting, TEDx and the St. Gallen Symposium. He holds degrees from the University of Economics in Prague and the CEVRO Institute.
