Neil Woodfine has almost a decade of experience in the Bitcoin industry, having worked at startups across exchange (OKCoin), cross-border payments (Remitsy and Wyre), infrastructure and mining (Blockstream) and custody (Unchained). He led marketing at Unchained, a Texas-based Bitcoin financial-services company, and has featured in Bloomberg, the Wall Street Journal, Reuters, the Financial Times and the BBC.
That path runs through most of the industry’s layers in turn: an exchange, a cross-border payments startup moving money into China over bitcoin, the infrastructure and mining side at Blockstream, and finally custody, where the product is not speed but the assurance that coins held for years are still there.
He has since moved to Second as chief marketing officer, working on the Ark protocol, a second-layer system for fast, low-cost bitcoin payments.
His public writing is mostly about the difference between marketing a technology and marketing a monetary standard. The first can promise features; the second has to persuade people to change what they treat as savings, which is slower and cannot be done with a campaign.
