This month, we announce the theme for our 2026 Free Cities Conference, share updates from our recent visit to the United States, highlight recent media coverage, and bring you the latest episodes from the Free Cities Foundation podcast.

Free Cities Conference 2026: Step Inside

We’re pleased to announce the theme for the 2026 Free Cities ConferenceStep Inside

As followers of our newsletter will be aware, this year marks the first time that we will hold our flagship annual conference inside a real, functioning Free City: Próspera on the tropical island of Roatán in Honduras.

As this year’s event offers you the chance to literally step inside a Free City for the first time, we have chosen “Step Inside” as the theme of our 2026 conference.

Not only will you be able to immerse yourself in the world-leading Free City of Próspera firsthand, but the conference will also feature more than a dozen Free City and seasteading projects from around the world, each presenting what life is or will be like within their communities. You can expect visualisationsVR experiences, and interactive workshops designed to give you a practical sense of day-to-day life inside these projects.

Our 2026 conference will be unlike anything we have hosted before, with a longer and more immersive overall experience on offer.

While the core conference program takes place from September 3–6, we will also be arranging additional optional activities for attendees who arrive in Roatán early, taking place on September 1 and 2 for those who wish to extend their stay and make the most of their travel. These will include activities such as scuba diving over Roatán’s world-class coral reefs, championship golfkayaking, and even a one-day excursion to another Free City project (details to be announced soon).

We have recently updated the information on our website, to give you a sense of when things are happening: www.freecitiesconference.com

Tickets start from $239: prices will rise soon, so grab yours today to secure the best possible deal.

Free Cities Foundation Visit to the Rockies

The Free Cities Foundation team recently travelled to Colorado to take part in the Leadership Program of the Rockies conference in Colorado Springs. During the event, we hosted a booth to raise awareness of Free City projects among a large audience of liberty-minded Americans and to explore local interest in establishing autonomous cities.

Following the event, our team visited the neighbouring state of Wyoming to meet with Secretary of State Chuck Gray and explore alignment between the Free Cities concept and President Trump’s proposal to establish up to ten new “Freedom Cities” on federally owned land in the United States. Wyoming is particularly relevant in this context because roughly 48 percent of the state’s land is federally owned, one of the highest proportions of any state in the country.

For more details on the Freedom Cities concept, we recommend this related report by the Charter Cities Institute.

  • Titus took part in a debate Will tech utopias rescue or ruin humanity?”, where he responded to challenges from two fierce critics of the Free Cities concept. The discussion covered questions of democracy, the founding and current situation of the Honduran ZEDEs, and what past utopian experiments can teach us about the prospects for new zones today. If you enjoyed Titus’ response, please consider leaving a comment on YouTube.
  • In this new German-language article, Jura as an Ideas Laboratory for Switzerland, Free Cities Foundation ambassador Juan Estevez explains how special economic zones can serve as institutional laboratories and makes the case for establishing an experimental zone in Switzerland’s Jura region.
  • In Jurisdiction Shopping: The Forgotten Logic Behind Flag Theory, Free Cities Foundation Chief Economist Rahim Taghizadegan and ambassador Emile Phaneuf explore the intellectual history behind the modern Flag Theory movement and how jurisdictional choice can create a competitive marketplace for governance.
  • In this German-language interview with Kontrafunk radio, Free Cities Ambassador Sebastian Grell discusses the Free Private City concept and real-world case studies such as Próspera and Ciudad Morazán, emphasizing that these projects aim to provide voluntary, service-oriented communities that are socially grounded rather than mere tax havens.

Podcast Roundup

Over the past month the Free Cities Foundation podcast has featured conversations on digital nations, seasteading, and emerging Free City projects.

Vikram Bharati discussed the intersection between the Free Cities and Network State movements, digital countries such as Draper Nation, and why he believes blockchain may be a hindrance rather than a help in developing new governance systems. Mitchell Suchner of ArkPad shared how his company is advancing affordable seasteading, from the Reef Resort in the Philippines to a future development planned off the coast of Próspera. We also heard from Tim Stern, founder of CryptoCity in Venezuela, about plans for the project on Margarita Island and why so many Germans are seeking to emigrate to freer jurisdictions.
